Jewelry Appraisal
A jewelry appraisal is a fully researched and unbiased estimate of the value and quality of a gemstone or jewelry. It is a documented opinion of the appraiser which is backed by their education, training and experience. A quality appraisal is done by a Graduate Gemologist who has a diploma, formal appraisal education and a Certified Gemological Laboratory.
A Graduate Gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is someone that has completed the five courses designed for gemology (Diamonds, Diamond Grading, Colored Stones, Colored Stone Grading and Gem Identification) either in residence at GIA or by correspondence plus three one-week courses at GIA or an off-campus location. Our appraiser is a Graduate Gemologist.
The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) was established in 1931 and is the world's largest and most respected nonprofit institute of gemological research and learning. Headquartered in Carlsbad, California, GIA offers training in a variety of fields related to the jewelry industry. It was conceived 75 years ago in the august tradition of Europe's most venerated institutes. Through its subsidiary GIA Enterprises, it owns the GIA Gem Trade Laboratory and GIA Gem Instruments. GIA discovers (through GIA Research), imparts (through GIA Education) and applies (through the GIA Gem Laboratory and GIA Gem Instruments) gemological knowledge to ensure the public trust in gems and jewelry. The GIA Gem Laboratory utilizes the internationally accepted diamond grading system that was developed by GIA in the 1950's to issue diamond grading reports for the jewelry industry and public. With 1100 employees, the Institute's scientists, diamond graders and educators are regarded, collectively, as the world's foremost authority in gemology.
